We think and act in a sustainable manner
Protection of the environment and responsible and economical usage of valuable resources are an important element of BRISTA’s corporate philosophy, which has always been firmly anchored in our thoughts and actions.
As an environmentally aware company, we know that investing in clean production processes and low-carbon logistics pays off in every respect – not least for our customers as well. Thanks to various internal processes, we also save on transportation routes and packaging material.
Another important milestone on this path is our certification according to ISO 50001:2018. It confirms our systematic energy management and our ongoing commitment to continuously improving our energy performance. In doing so, we actively contribute to climate protection and the conservation of natural resources.
Naturally in the Sauerland region
We plant trees
It is obvious that our forests are suffering: instead of dark green coniferous forests, we often see cleared areas or brown trees infested with bark beetles. Dry summers do the rest. Even non-experts can see that quick and consistent action is needed.
At Brista, we don’t just talk about sustainability, we do something about it. That’s why we support the reforestation of climate-neutral mixed woodland right on our doorstep in the Sauerland region. We are participating in the WaldLokal project and are helping to plant deciduous and coniferous trees – for healthy forests, greater biodiversity, a better quality of life and active climate protection.
Around 10,000 m²
Photovoltaic system
At BRISTA, we resolutely focus on climate protection. This is why we have been using photovoltaic technology to produce electrical power for years now. In 2005, for example, we installed a self-financed 340 kWp photovoltaic system on 10,000 square metres of hall space. The 2200 modules from Sharp and Shell cover a total area of 2300 square metres.
A further system with an output of 100 kWp was added in 2022. Here we have 243 modules in operation on around 600 square metres.
In total, the 2450 modules generate around 420,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year. This is equivalent to about 66 times the consumption of a private household.
Rainwater retention basin
100,000 litres
We have always worked as efficiently and sustainably as possible at every step of the production process. Environmental awareness is not just a catchword for us. We bring it to life. This also includes collecting valuable rainwater to prepare and fill the chemical baths for the galvanising and powder coating processes.
Our large rainwater retention basins have an impressive capacity of 100,000 litres.
Biogas district heating
Eco-friendly energy sources
We aspire to utilise eco-friendly energy sources wherever possible in order to fulfil our responsibility towards people and the environment, which is why we have been using biogas district heating since 2007. Our heating system heats all the chemical baths in the surface finishing department as well as all hall and office areas.
The switch to biogas district heating once again underlines our conception of ourselves as an environmentally aware, resource-conserving and future-oriented company.
Remondis Sustainability Certificate 2023
Sustainability certificate for climate protection and environmental conservation
In 2023, in collaboration with the REMONDIS Group we took a significant step towards the sustainable usage of resources. Our efforts have enabled us to save valuable raw materials and energy and in doing so make a measurable contribution to climate protection.
Thanks to our measures, we have:
- saved 149.9 tons of fossil resources (oil equivalent),
- recovered 352.6 tons of metals (copper equivalent),
- saved 29.9 m³ of biogenic resources (wood equivalent),
- saved 1997.7 MWh of energy,
- and prevented 637.6 tons of carbon emissions.
These figures show that we are actively contributing to reducing our ecological footprint.
